Brinda Karat wants Ban On Google India Website
Brinda Karat (Indian politician, a CPI-M leader and member of Rajya Sabha) has demanded banned on Google website in India for showing ads of clinics which help parents to find out the sex of their baby during the pregnancy stage.
The law of the land says:
“The Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques Act prohibits determination and disclosure of the sex of foetus. It also prohibits any advertisements relating to pre-natal determination of sex and prescribes punishment for its contravention. The person who contravenes the provisions of this Act is punishable with imprisonment and fine.”
Brinda Karat said the Government had earlier issued a warning to Google for such violation but the site has again started putting sponsored advertisements about clinics doing pregnancy stage.
Google on their part have denied posting such ads on their website – “In India, we do not allow ads for the promotion of prenatal gender determination or preconception sex selection.”
Under the Act, any entity give satisfaction in sex determination advertisements is subject to legal action for jail and fine. Karat expressed concern over the plummeting sex ratio in the country and nine lakh girl children going missing.
